About Mark Skoyles
I’m a Sports Therapist. I first became involved in sports therapy as a profession in 1998, when I started working at Marlow Football Club, treating 1st team players before, during and after matches. Its a job I still enjoy doing today, dealing with matchday injuries and treating players coming back from injury. Helping men & women return fully fit to their sport, at whatever level is a particular passion of mine.
My training, work experience and any achievement
I have a BSc (Hons) in Sports Therapy from London Metropolitan University and have trained with leading US & UK doctors, osteopaths, physiotherapists and therapists in numerous sports injury, deep tissue and remedial massage treatments. I take an active interest in ’movement therapies’ and am a qualified Pilates Instructor. I believe structured movement is a key factor in injury rehabilitation, injury prevention and a healthy lifestyle in general. Further Information
My background and original training is in Sports & Deep Tissue massage. Since then I have studied many different variations of musculoskeletal therapies and treatments. I also completed all of the Football Associations’ treatment and management of injury courses. In 2005 I spent 2 months in Thailand and completed an advanced course in Thai Massage. Being there made me appreciate some of the culture and differences in philosophy between Western (reactive) and Eastern medicine (preventative), and I always try to incorporate the best of both in my treatments.
Back in the UK I have a BSc (Hons) in Sports Therapy from London Metropolitan University and have trained with leading US & UK doctors, osteopaths, physiotherapists and other therapists in numerous sports injury and remedial massage treatments. I take an active interest in ‘movement therapies’ and am a qualified Pilates Instructor. I believe structured movement is a key factor in injury rehabilitation, injury prevention and a healthy lifestyle in general.
I take a professional interest in running, gait biomechanics and kinetics and am a keen runner myself, regularly doing races (albeit quite slowly!) up to marathon distance.
I am a fully insured member (no. 40884) of the Sports Therapy Organisation, and registered with the Natural & Complementary Health Council and am bound by their code of practices.
